7 Secrets I know this isn't
new but it has been out of stock and ...i just got a restock of this book
and I re read it. Boy is this a great little book. There are two items in
there that I do every day! Plus his torn and restored card, a trick with
Glorpy that kills (I know, I used to do it... ! I think I have to dig that
old thing out of the junk drawer.) The charisma switch is a gem of a quickie
just walking along the bar. This is a great little book and the "trick per
dollar" ratio is very high....good investment.
Aces in your Faces Another product that
has been out of production for a while... Aces in your Faces by Bob Kohler.
This is one of the most diabolical secrets in card magic. Bob kept this to
himself and a small circle of friends for years, all the while performing at
countless trade shows and perfecting the handling. This is moveless magic at
its best. The performer barely handles the cards and yet the aces assemble.
Even more astounding is the fact that someone from the audience decides the
final outcome after the cards are already in position! Hard to believe
but this routine is entirely self working and resets instantly. This utilizes
Burling Hull's gimmick called the Ghost Card. Both the experienced sleight of
hand artist and the newcomer will instantly be able to perform "Aces in your
Faces" and will rejoice in the clean "shows" of the backs of four cards and
four faces simultaneously. Once you have mastered the basic routine, Bob goes
on to teach you the next level. This twists your audience's mind into even
more intense, contortions. This is an equivoque that is completely diabolical,
so that no matter what the spectator says, you have your bases covered.
Wonderful.

Dobson's Choice 2
The first volume of Dobson's Choice is sold out but while I was in Holland
this summer, I picked up a few of Volume 2. Any routine that has Wayne's
name associated with it is well worth a read. It has either been honed to
perfection over countless performances before real audiences or is a
cherished item that he would sooner have kept to himself but has, only
recently decided to share with the rest of us.
Those of you who were wise enough to purchase Wayne's Dobson's Choice book
will need no encouragement from me to add this sequel to your collection.
Like the first offering, here Wayne reveals thirteen more priceless routines
from his close-up and stand-up acts. I like them all but will definitely be
adding his 'Tossed Deck' to my repertoire when I tour again later this year.
It's brilliant and anyone (including me) can do it!
Wayne's unique sense of humor is evident on every page. There are so many
lines, gags and bits-of-business sprinkled about the book that even working
pros, who normally never add anything to their acts, will be able to steal
(having paid for the privilege... for a change) them and use them either
with Wayne's excellent routines or simply injected straight into their own.
Healed and
Sealed Soda
I just did this for my daughter and she flipped out!. So will your
audiences. Here is what happens... * An opened, emptied and crushed soda can
slowly restores itself, making noises as all the dents disappear. *You heal
the hole in top so that the can is once again Healed and Sealed. * Then OPEN
the can with a pfzzzt! And the original soda is poured into a glass. *One
normal can is used - no switches. This one is not difficult to perform but
it will take a few tries. The investment is worth it...however... and we are
talking the investment of a six pack of soda... Back
Magic Ties... Carter I don't carry a lot of
magic "swag"... I think a lot of it is ugly. I personally don't like things
with "general magic" themes. But I think these are wonderful representations
of works of art. I love these ties. I wear these ties to work at the Tower.
They are very tasteful and are great conversation starters. With a little
research, you can inform and entertain your audiences with stories about
these performers. I find that people generally love to hear the stories.

Wonderland Bill
Some of you may be aware of the discussion on the EG about this effect. It
generated a lot of talk. Here is my take on the trick. I bought it from Nick
Brown some time ago. I liked it immediately but wasn't sure of the reaction
from real folks. To test it out, I showed it to my 18 year old son and at
the end of it, he had the "brick in the forehead" look. With a wry smile, he
said, "Hey, that's cool." So I said to myself, "That's IN!" and it has been
ever since. I developed a little script and put my personality into the
presentation and it _is_ cool. Last fall, when I was working the Castle, I
visited with Dean Dill. I pulled this out of the wallet, did it for him and
Dean's jaw just dropped. I showed it to a few folks around the Castle and I
couldn't believe the reactions. It is one of those things that receive a
much bigger reaction than you would ever expect. It is easy to do and the
effect is mess-with-your-brain weird. Here is the effect: You OPENLY display
a one dollar bill with a small trap door cut into the middle. Asking a
spectator to HOLD the Trap Door, you fold the bill closed and then open the
bill. The effect here is difficult to get across in print, but when the bill
is unfolded the trap door is on the other side of the bill!!! Now, PLEASE
understand this: It looks exactly as if YOU- while holding the Trap Door
-somehow went THROUGH the small cutout in the bill! This is one of those
unique knock-out tricks that has to be experienced to fully get the effect.
Most magic effects are fairly easy to describe and get across in print, but
not this one. There is simply NO WAY that the little door should be able to
switch sides of the bill while the spectator is holding it! You get the
entire system detailed on a video tape and one bill set up and ready to go!
The aforementioned discussion revolves around two major themes. First, it is
a similar method to some previously published effects. But these older
versions were with playing cards or index cards... I even did a similar
thing with a Florida state ballot (computer generated graphics) with Bush on
one side and Gore on the other (but that presentational idea went out of
date pretty quickly.) The fact that you are using a recognizable object, a
US one dollar bill really elevates this... there is so much stuff on a
dollar bill that the presentational possibilities are endless. In fact, I
have come across some fascinating info about a dollar bill that I enclose
when you buy it from me. I wouldn't dream of using all the facts but I have
found that most people have no idea what is on a bill that you handle every
day. So some of this trivia is real interesting -or can be- if properly
scripted. The other theme was the fact that it is $25. My only input on this
was that if I could find a piece as good as this for a mere $25,that was a
no brainer, no skill, just figure out the script, I would plunk down the
money every day of the week. Personally, I stayed out of the discussion. I
do it, I love it, and, frankly, it doesn't bother me that some people feel
it is expensive. Fine, don't buy it. Get something else... The only place
you can find this is from Brad Burt who produced the tape and Rocky Mountain
Magic ( at least as far as I know).
Side Swiped by Simon Aronson
Those of you who know me are aware of how important it is to give stuff away
with your name on it and this is a great example of an impossibility that
you hand out to a spectator that they will remember! "It's probably the
strongest combination of baffling, visual and commercial magic that I've
ever created. It's one of my absolute favorite effects for laymen." - Simon
Aronson The Effect: You display both sides of a small printed Instruction
Card for "The World's Greatest Card Trick" which you just received in
today's mail and offer to try it out with the spectator's help. As you read
off each step, the spectator follows the instruction. The instructions guide
the spectator to select a playing card from a shuffled deck, sign its face,
replace it in the deck and finally wrap the deck up in rubber bands,
"magician-proofing" the pack. The spectator's signed selection remains in
full view the entire time until it's cleanly buried in the deck. The
spectator wraps the deck herself and then drops it into your jacket pocket.
The final instruction is then read, but it simply says "magically produce
the card." Undaunted, you make a magical gestured over the Instruction
Card-which you've been holding in plain view since the very beginning of the
trick and when you turn it around, the other side is shown to have magically
changed into the spectator's selected card, complete with their signature!
The Instruction Card is immediately given to the spectator to keep as a
souvenir. It's an "impossible object" which she'll keep forever, a
personalized memento of the time she witnessed "The World's Greatest Card
Trick." * Memorable, humorous and totally baffling * Easy to do (only one
sleight required!) * Leaves the spectator with a permanent, personalized,
impossible object Side-Swiped comes with a detailed, 29-page booklet, fully
illustrated by Tony Dunn which includes Simon's professional presentation
and additional comments and variations along with enough cards specially
printed by the US Playing Card Co. for 12 performances. Refills Also
Available Need more of the Side-Swiped cards? Refill packs are available
which contain enough of the specially printed cards for 10 performances.
